When Jesus encounters the woman in Luke 7 who anoints his feet with perfume, things get awkward really fast. The owner of the home, Simon (a Pharisee) does not understand this woman's offering of worship and how Jesus does not know her identity. There is disbelief and disdain for what she has done. But Jesus blesses her and uses the moment as an opportunity to reveal what is truly in Simon's heart.
We can look at worship sometimes with the same perspective as Simon when God is calling us to have the heart of this woman. True worship may not fit the mold the rest of the world is looking for...or even the church for that matter. But through it we experience the blessing of our Savior's presence and the freedom He brings.
