Show Notes

Finishing up the Book of James series, James tackles some big topics in the final chapter.  He is direct and to the point when it comes to the dishonest wealthy in society -- whether in the church or outside of the church.  It is wrong to act fraudulantly with workers and to use wealth as a means for unchecked power.  From there, James shifts to a theme that we've seen before in his opening verses of Chapter 1:  be patient and endure suffering.  He mentions Job and the prophets of the Old Testament as examples we can look to as we walk this path.  Finally, James ends on a note about prayer.  "The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." (James 5:16)  It is prayer that marks the true faith life of a believer.  We can expect that God hears the prayer of the righteous.  James compares us to Elijah and points out a simple truth:  Elijah was a simple man just like us but his prayers caused the rain to cease and start again.  Amazing!
