In John 4, Jesus has an unlikely encounter. He approaches a Samaritan woman who is drawing water from a well and asks her for a drink. This request of course, sets up a conversation that for the woman, is life-altering. Jesus establishes Himself as the Messiah and for this woman, there are definitely implications. She must now go and tell others about this man who “Told me everything I ever did.” Her life is now changed because she encountered Jesus.
We see in Jesus the need to approach those we perhaps see as unloveable or even undeserving of the Gospel. Jews would not normally associate with Samaritans. And women were given second-class status in the ancient Roman world. None of this holds Jesus back. He reaches out to this woman and shows her where true "living water" is found. Come and drink of Jesus and thirst no more!
